WELLINGTON-MANAWATU RAILWAY.
April 2. The annual meeting of the WellingtonManawatu Railway Company, (Limited) was held to-day. It was largely attended. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The chairman said 58| miles out of 83 miles were already under contract. The remainder of the line was very easy. The total cost would be considerably under the engineer's original estimate. A much better line over the original Government one had been adopted. For 60 miles the running grade would be 1 in 100 instead of 1 in 50. Great credit was due to Yogel for the successf nl floating of the shares and debentures in London. The poll for the election of directors and auditors is iioat proceeding. Votes of thanks were passed to the directors ; Higginson, chief engineer ; Wallace, secretary ; and the officers of the company.
