WARDEN'S COURT.

Mohday, AvaoHT 21, (Before H. A. Sfratford, Esq., Warden.) Applications from Henry Caplen and Jno. E. Warner, each for a gold-mining lease in the Blackball district, were granted. R. J. Tonka' 8 application for a goldmining lease in the same district, was adjourned to the 2Bth at 10 a.m. A similar application in the same locality from Edward Rigg, was refused. An application for a miniDg lease in the same locality was made by J. . M. Lidman, but was adjourned to the 28th at 10 a.m for Burvey. B. Ritchie applied for a dam. As there was no appearance of applicant the case was struck out. The application of J. M. Lalor for a wash paddock was granted, I The following applications for various ' mining (rights were granted : — Patrick Cain, dam ; James Keith, residence area ; Ah. Chuge, two dams ; J. T. Keill, pro* j tection ; W. Wikon and C.B. Montague, water race ; Same, dam ; Same, drainage area ; James Hebbard, water race and drainage area. W. ,&.. Barton (»old receiver Nelson South-west Goldfields) v. Boase, Smith, and Kerr. — This was a claim for arrears of rent dae by the Albion Quartz-mining Company, Paparoa Range. The amount sued for waa Ll7, though the sum alleged to be due was L 34 At the opening of the case, Mr Barton asked . that the amount be reduced to LIT, which was equivalent to the rent due up to the time cancellation was applied for. Mr Perkins appeared for Messrs Kerr and Smith ; and Mr Guinness for Mr Boase. After abont an hour had been spent in Mr Barton being compelled to establish his right to take proceedings, other technical objections were taken, the chief one, however, being that inasmuch as the lease had been cancelled, it was impossible to recover upon what had ceased to have any existence. After a good deal of argument the Warden reserved his decision.
