HOW WINIATA WAS ARRESTED.
Auckland, June 27. Barlow it appears drugged Winiata with chloroform after he had made him .drunk, and carried him tied on horseback to Kihikihi. Winiata recovered atj Kihikilii, got his hand loose, and endeavored ineffectually to escape. In the lock-up at Hamilton he told Sergeant M'Govern that Whi taker said at Whatiwhatihoe all back offences would be placed under Tawhiao'a sovereignty, and asked leave to telegraph to Tawhiao, which was accorded, the police Beeinjj the telegram. Winiata appears to ba resigned to tbe inevitable, and asked Constable Gillies to shoot him while on the road to Hamilton. Barlow had sold out his property in the King country previously, [and is now with his wife and family at Te Awamutu.
