REEFTON MINING NEWS.
The Herald reporter, under date 22nd ins t., writes :— Western Lease — This lease adjoins the Imperial lease to the aouth-weat. The. object of taking up this ground was toprospect for the run of stone that was worked in former days in the Juatrin-Time mine, a parcel of which it will be remembered yielded over 60z3 of gold per ton. Only a week or so has elapsed since operations were first commenced, so that but a short distance has been driven on the line of reef. Yesterday when viewing tne face I found there was quartz on both Bides of the drive with a horse of Tnullock in the middle. The country is not yet of the most solid formation, consequently it may be concluded that the lode will, in : the course of driving, have quite a different appearance. The quartz on the foot wall side of the drive resembles the stone procured in the Just-in-Tiine mine at the date above alluded to. A lode not pay-, able on one level is otten exceptionally rich in gold bearing qualities on another. I look upon thia mine as one of a great future, and now that the western run of reef has been traced further south, it would-be an easy matter for the Fiery Cross Company to crosscut west from the main shaft, and before going a great distance the underly of this reef would be met with. Should a move be made in prospecting from that company's shaft, and the reef be traced so much further north, the natural consequence will be that a general demand will take place, not only for one company's stock, but any shares on the line will find ready purchasers. South Hopeful —Late surveys having proved that the low main level has been driven several degrees from the track of reef, operations are now directed to the required course. The distance to be driven ia but short before meeting with the Imperial run of stove, quartz having been met with on the exact line of reef on the surface. The full number of hands having been engaged, the work of driving to the reef will now be forwarded with as much despatch as possible. Imperial — Still going down on a large body of stone. Good despatch is now being made in the sinking. There are seventh employed at this claim at present. Just-in-Time — Something like 80ft is now the reported depth of the north winze. There are from 2 to 3ft of stone in the foot of this shaft, which contains good gold. The blind winze going down on ! the south block also exhibits a large body of quartz. Over this sinking stopes are being carried still further south. The stone when crushed is expected to give good returns. A crushing ia likely to take place about the end next month. About 40 tons of atone ace to grass. Fiery Cross— From 18m to 2ft of quartz is b»-.ing followed in the riae over the 300 foot level. The s'iouy ; i's of a payable BA^raoter. In th,e jopuntry in. which thiß •juarta in being traced a good Btiot of gold
may be found at any. moment, as it Is supposed that this is a continuation or the reef that has given handsome yields in former days. In the crosscut which, is going for the line of reef exceptionally hard country is now being driven through, and consequently progress is .slow. ..,-..,.,.,,. _..■...-,..->..- -..— ~~.—— — ~
