LOCAL SCHOOL COMMUTE.

m. ■ ■ A meeting of this body was held at their office last evening. Present : Messrs Hamilton (chair), Perotti, Lord, Petrie, Morrice, Yarrall, and Barrowman. Preliminary and formal business being transacted, the following ordinary business was dealt with-:— The Secretary was directed to order a ton of coal for the Cobden school. A letter was received from Mr John Dinan, complaining of the Cobden school being turned into a dance-house, and asking some questions as to the cleaning of the school. A letter of thanks was received from the Secretary of the Greymouth Football Club, for the use of the 3chool ground. A letter was received from Sacretary Robinson, in respect to repairs to the Greymouth school, same not to exceed L 25. On the question of nominating a pupil teacher for the Greymouth school, it was resolved that the whole of the applications be forwarded to Mr Goulding for his nomination ; alao, that the Headmaster be requested to inform the Committee < whether there are more than one pupil, teacher equally suitable for the appointment ; alao, that Mr Goulding be requested to report in conformity with the two previous resolutions, and that the Visiting Committee have power to make the nominations to the Board. A circular was read from the Central Department, in reference to excluding the names of all children under 5 years of age from the summaries of scholars. The instructions of the circular were ordered to be communicated to the Headmaster, with a view to being acted on. A letter was read from Mr H. Chase, with a memo from the Headmaster attached, in relation to Mr Chase's daughter misbehaving herself in the school and defying the teacher. The letter was received and referred to the Visiting Committee with authority to act. A couple of small accounts were passed for payment. The report of the Visit- >*^L ing Committee was brought up and adopted. The Visiting Committee appointed for the month are Messrs Lord Petrie. The following resolutions, moved by Mr Petrie, were discussed and cartied :— " That the head-teachers bs requested to furnish monthly reports, I giving the number of children in attendance, the teachers' attendance, the classes they are in charge of, and in the "event of removal from one class to another, the " cause for such removal." " That before granting holidays to subordinates, the head teacher obtain the sanction of the Committee." The Committee then adjourned.
