GREY RTVER STEAM TUG COMPANY, LIMITED.

| TO THE EDITOR.] Sir,— While agreeing with Mr Nancarrow's suggestion in your issue of this morning that the correspondence on the above subject can be safely dropped, in fact I will go further and say that it would have been safer if it had never been commenced by his making the wild statement he did to the Minister of Public Works, I will crave your indulgence once more to point his inconsistency. He charges me with taking a round-about away of replying, but 1 would draw attention to his first statement in his letter of the 17th, where he says, " that my statement to the Minister of Public Works was based upon the present market value of the tug being L 4000." In this morning's issue he writes, " I challenged him to dispute my valuation of L4OOO of a tug, which should be in all respects not inferior to the local tug, &c." Rather a difference I think. I must inform him that commercial men are perfectly satisfied how far he is out in his estimate. With re ard to his remarks about the public interests in the matter of the tug, while cheerfully admitting the good business relations which hava always existed between the general public and the Tug Company, I consider the Company has performed its part towards the public, by keeping the port working for six years at a direct loss to themselves, of course hoping that some day they would be repaid for the sacrifices made, and I am certain that the general public will be glad whenever that day arrives to congratulate the Company upon any success they may have. Apologising for taking up your valuable space, I am, &c, G. W. Moss, Manager Gray River Steam Tug Co, Limited. Greymouth, Maroh 20.
