TELEGRAPH DEPARTMENT
[TO THE EDITOR. | Sir, — Can you inform the public — as it is of vilal importance to many — whether or not they are to rely upon the timepiece in front of the office. If not, why have it there ? Is it there to mislead ? Last night I was at the door four minutes to eight o'clock, but found the doors shut. This is 'certainly not the first time the same has occurred to me. I am, &c, Subscriber. Greymouth, March 38. [If there is a time- piece attached to the office, then the officers should be guided by it, as the public trust to the clock for transmitting messages, &c, and a difference of even a minute ■ may cause great inconvenience and probably much loss. What are the public to be guided by, if the officers do not heed the official clock 1-Ed, G.B.A.
