THE LOCAL STEAM TUG COMPANY'S PROFITS.

[lO THE EDITOR.] Sir,— ln reply to the letter from Mr G. W. Moss, appearing in the Argus of today, I beg to inform the public that any statement to the Minister of Public Works was based upon the present market value of the tug beinj? L4OOO. If Mr Moss is prepared to dispute this valuation being a correct one, or that the Company's earnings have not paid|about, or above, eighty per cent per annum,|for say the last twelve months upon this sum, then I shall be prepared to follow up the subject by producing facts and figures, to prove the correctness of my valuation, and the returns of the earnings which give the result I have named. Mr Moss's insinuation as to my intentionally having stated to the Minister that, which I proved to be untrue, I feel it is unnecessary to contradict. I am, &c, Rich. Nancarrow. Greymouth, 17th March, 1880.
