Large numbers of Maoris are now at Parihaka. It is stated that several are dying daily. One day as many as fifteen died from various diseases. The huts are reported to be overrun with lice and vermin. The natives en the Plains are busy fencing and cropping land in the vicinity of Waingongoro bridge, but there is no pretence at fortifications of any kind.
