London, May 1. News from Capo Town to the 15th April states that a fresh advance is probable in a few dajs. The Governor and High Commissioner [ have arrived at Pretoria after a satisfac- ■ tory interview with the Boers and colonists. An unsuccessful attempt was made to storm the stronghold of Mairasias ; 26 killed and wounded. Lord Salisbury, at a Conservative banquet, said he was convinced that all Great Powers, without exception, were determined to execute the Treaty of Berlin. May 2. The Thousand Guinea Stakes was won by Wheel of Fortune ; Abbaye, second ; Reconciliation, third.
