GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

[PRESS AGENCY.! !• HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Wellington, October 31. After resuming yesterday evening, Mr Macandrew moved his resolutions regarding a steam- service from Great Britian to the colony, of such a tonnage a3 will enable them to visit the principal ports of the colony and land about 800 statute adults per month for five; years* The subsidy was not mentioned. After a good deal of discussion, in which the principal objection was that Mr Macandrew failed to furnish any detailed information, a resolution was formally put in committee, when progress was reported, Mr Macandrew expressing the hope that he would be able to give the House full information next session. On the second reading of the Appropriation Act, Major. Atkinson took occasion to review the session, the burden of his remarks going- to show that the Government had f ailedin all their promises. The Premier^ in replying, had only said a few words, when he proceeded to accuse Major Atkinson and his late colleagues of enriching their friends out of the public funds and the Crown and native lands. Major Atkinson moved that the words be taken down, which was done. Major Aikinson said as the Premier had now been 12 months in power and was possessed of all documents, the charges were so serious, he could not treat them as hitherto. He moved that the matter be inquired into by a Select Committee. A very long discussion followed on a point ot order, when Mr Sheehan moved that the words did not exceed the ordinary custom of debate. Major Atkinson's motion was negatived by 29 to 13, and Mr Sheehan's amendment practically carried by 29 to 13. Sir George Grey, who had left the chamber, returned and finished his speech, in which he denounced Major Atkinson and his party for withholding the liberties of the people, aided by a hostile Council and tKe" Governor. The Appropriation Bill was then passed. The Immigration and Public Works Appropriation Bill was reported. Wellington, Nov. 1. On the House resuming at one o'clock, The Speaker announced that the Legislative Council had agreed with the amend ment which came by message from the Governor, and which was agreed to by the other House. The House then adjourned till noon to-morrow.
