Some defended the practice as harmless, considering that the extgencies of society require everymember thereof to make herself, (or himself) ks agreeable as posaible. Others denounced dye as injurious. One lady, however, took much higher ground. "I," she said, !'coaaider the practice exeedingly sinfal-an interference with the intentions of Providence Nothing would induce me to use hair-dye When 1 oetect an occasional grey hair I lust touch it with my black bandoUne." *
