The pa«sengerwho died was named Robert Alleivformerally a traveller for Sargood and Sons, . ■ , , „ At Napier, on the 13th instant, a boating accident of a serious nature at the Spit created a good deal of excitement. Oniin- " quiry it was ascertained that a canoe had been capsized on the bar, and its former occupant was then swimming ashore. Three boats at odcb put off. but were unable to weather the point at the.-end of the western mole, owing to tlw strong' tide.
