REATSALE OF DIAMOND JEWELLERYINMELBOURE.

j [FROM SYDNEY MORNING HERALD.] ; The sale of DrJßeaney's, diamonds estimated at L 15,000 value, took place at the Melbourne Athenaeum recently, and the whole realised about LIO,OOO. The auctioneer stated that all were guaranteed Brazilian diamonds, and that nothing would be offered which was hot bond fide Dr Beaney's. By far tha handsomest of the lot was the chain of diamonds which is said to have cost LSOOO in itself. This

went for L 1550 to Mr Sblcberg. Next came a magnificient chain of gold and diamonds, with a pendant representing a pencil case of rubies and diamonds. Mr Nathan was the purchaser for L 370, the cost being stated at a LIOOO. Following this in value was a diamond ring, three diamonds (eighteen carats ), knocked down for L3OO to Mr Dennis, the original cost haying been L7OO. Two more diamond rings, which each cost L6OO, went to the same purchaser for L2lO each. A gold snuff-box, with the doctor's monogram in diamonds, fetched L 47, the cost being Ll7O, 'and Mr Brown, sen., builder, was the purchaser. Mr Soicberg bought, for L 205 each,,,tv?o solitaires and ,a neck stud,, all uniform with basket gold work, and very large single diamonds, the cost having been L6OO each. Mr Watson, of Sandhurst, got a remarkably nice gold chain, imitation ropej for L 29, the" gold alone being worth L2B at per 'weight, and Dr Beaney had given over LIOO for this article. The rings were put up as the doctor's favourites, being those he commonly wore together on one finger. They are respectively diamond, diamond and. sapphire, and diamond and emerald. The lot went , for L7B, which the dealers present said was very cheap. A gold squared locket, with a most beautiful diamond, fetched LIOO. Another had multifarious little diamonds in a star, and a large assortment of rings and. studs were all disposed of.
