THE CABLE CONFERENCE.
.. j : : . Melbourne, May 19. The Cable Conference is concluded. The result includes Glover's proposal of duplication from Singapore to Port Darwin ; also a second cable between Penang and Singapore. The subsidy to be L 32,000 annually, paid rateably by the Colonies according to population.- Press messages are to be reduced one-fourth, and Government messages one-half. Ne\r Zealand and Tasmania get no advantage from the reduced cable rates. Nothing was done concerning the re-duplication of the land line to Port Darwin. Tasmania and Queensland are dissatisfied with the arrangements.
