The past week was the dullest for business thaVhasi been experienced for many months, •nd<s'toekß fell considerably,' notwithstanding A very-marked improvement in the character and quantity of stone in many of the mines ; notably'the Welcome, the Victoria, and the Bakfckl»va Companies. Jn the former the body of ston'e'has increased very considerably^ The Victoria has also improved very much, both in the quantity and quality of the stone, and* the 'general and regular formation of the 'ode, which is over 2ft in width, with every appearancef of holding, The Balacklava has come bn stone equal to two ounces to the toni'and co situated in relation to the battery that acruehing c*n be ob'ained at very little cost. > • -The '■ Oriental is a company seldom mentioned till recently, bat that will e'er long command attention, the prospects obtainable being- exceedingly good. The Keepit-Dark have' fallen 1 in consequence of the winze being Bwiihped 'out at a depth of 90ft, toe tunnel to connect with which cannot be 'driven the required distance under four months. In the meantime there is an abundaace of poor stone in the upper workings that will yield ample to pay working expenses ; shareholders will, therefore,' have patiently to wait the coiVse" of : events, with the assurance of tegular dividends in prospective.
