"OBITER DICTUM " V. A. G. N.
[TO THE EDITOB] Sir, — In the Weekly Archjs of May 17 appeared a letter signed "Obiter Dictum," treating on, as he writes, the execrable emanations'that appear in your piper from time to time from my pen. I leave the public to judge, not ■" Obiter dictum," whether or not my letters are execrable productions. In regard to " Obiter dictum's " opinion; his opinion on; any public question is like himself personally — not worth a threepenny piece of ; current : coin.- • And in regard .to " Obiter dictum's " advice, that I should not get into . unfathomable waters, I can inform him that when I do I do not require his assistance for to get out again. In return for his advice I would advise him to use his brilliant classical ability in trying to keep his head above water, or he will drown himself or some confiding friend. If " Obiter dictum " wishes to distinguish himself in the ; Argus by attacking me, then let him do so by signing his name to his " execrable emanations." 7 I am, &c.,. ... Andrew G, Nicol. Greymouth, May 18.
