Fedigkef. — Sir Colin Campbell was got by the well-known hoise King Fergus, out of the celebrated mare Scotland's Pride. King Fergus was got by Lord Byron the property of Mr Proudfoot, Dumfrieshire, who gained the prize of £40 at Annan, when four years old. Lord Byron was got by Old Prince Loyal, who gained the first prize at Aber- ■ een, and also at Johnstone. King Fergus was bred by Mr Muir, Kirkcudbrightshire, out of his prize mare, which was brsd by Mr Frame, Clydeside. King Fergus, gained seven firet prizes in 1860, and he had the first prize as being the best animal of the horse kind at the great show at Hamilton. Scotland's Pride was got by the celebrated Clydesdale horse Lofty out of the well-known i Smithston stock. Lofty was the property of Mr Samuel Clark, and gained the premium at Glasgow, open to all Scotland. Scotland's Pride gained the premium of the H'ghlaud Society's Show in 1861, as a three-year-old. She also gained five . first prizes in Canterbury. Terms.— £3 10s for each mare ; paddocking, 2s 6d per week. All care taken but no responsibility. ■ THOS. H. GARTH. "STAMP ACT, 1875.' Bills op Lading and Receipts in Liet;. THEREOF. IT io hereby notified that, after the Ist of J &nuary next, the use of Impressed Stamps on Bills of Lading is compulsory. Such documents must, after that date, be written upon paper previously impressed at the Head Office, and cannot be stamped after the execution thereof. It ia requested, therefore, that Merchants, Shipping A gents, and others concerned will, without delay, forward to this office such ..orms as they may require to be impressed, accompanied y the usual requisition and receipt of the Bank of New Zealand for the amount, less the authorised discount. Information may be obtained at any Stamp Oflice. The provisions of the Act bearing on this point are as follow : — "47. Except where express provision is made to the contrary, all duties are to be denoted by impressed stamps only. "62. (1) A Bill of Lading includes alse any receipt given in lieu thereof from the master, mate, owner, ov agent of any vessel, and is not to be stamped after the execution thereof. (2) Every person who makes or executes any Bill of Lading not duly stamped shall forfeit a sum not exceeding £50." • SCHEDULE. Notice is hereby given, that the provisions of "The Stamp Fee Act, 1875," will be brought into operation in the offices of the District Courts throughout the Colony, the Ist April, proximo. After that date an duties, fees, fines, and penalties hitherto payable to Clerks of District Courts in cash, must be paid by means of stamps, impressed or adhesive, as prescribed by the regulations made in pursuance of the said Act, and no cash will thereafter be received for any such fees, &c. Stocks of Law Court Stamps may be obtained from the Deputy Commissioners of Stamps, and from Depositaries in places where sittings of the District Court are held.
