The B.s. Gothenburg arrived from Nelson yesterday afternoon. The Dispatch was in the roadstead waiting for her, and transhipped her cargo and passengers, but the tug could not return to port until early on thte morning's tide. The p.s. Ly ttelton crossed the bar yesterday morning from Nelson and Westport. She brings portions of transhipped cargo from the steamers Albion and Alhambra. The s.s. Kennedy is expected here tomorrow. The ''Buller News" gives some further particulars of the disaster to the schooner Alma : — " On last Tuesday afternoon she experienced a terrific gale from the S.W.. and was hove-to about 75 miles north ot the Butter. The mainsail was close reefed and also also the mainstaysail. Whilst in this position at about 2 p.m a tremendous sea, as high as the foreyard, broke over the bwos and waist of the vessel, completing burying her decks. The mate, J. B. Valder, who was standing aft near the captain, called out "Hold on !" and the next minute she was submerged from Bbem to stern in the huge sea, which swept away galleys boits, rigging, bulwarks, stanchions, and every moveable thing, filling the mainsail and throwing the vessel on her port side. The mate and a seaman named Andrew Banicn. were washed overboaid and disappeared. The rigging of the foretopmast a<« cut away, and the bowsprit and the jibboom, which were hanging by the gear. The schooner righted with some difficulty. All hands now exerted themselves in throwing cargo overboard, to lighten the vessel, which was completely waterlogged, and afterwards, in baling the water out of the hold The Alma spoke the Prosperity, bound from Melbourne to Greymouth. Her forerigging and land yards had been carried away, but when she and the Alma parted company, the Prosperity had repaired damages.
