We take the following from yesterday's 11 Register " :— " There appears to be no provision in the Education Ordinance for convening the first meeting of the Local Education Committees elected on Thursday. It may, however, be presumed that the chosen Committeemen will get over this slight omission without difficulty. The idea has also been generally entertained that the members of the Central Board of Education to be chosen by the several Committees must be members of the Local Committees This appears to be an error, as clause 22 prescribes that :— ' 'I he Central Board shall consist of one person to be elected annually on or before the fifth day of November by each of the Local Committees, and one person to be appointed by the Superintendent." We understand that it was purposely left to the option of Local Committees whether or not they would elect one of their number to the Central Board, because it was thought in districts such as Okarito, considerable difficulty might be encountered in getting a local man to attend the Central Board at flokitika."
