The Superintendent has proclaimed the 7th of October a holiday, in honor of the 105 th anniversary of Captain Cook's arrival in New Zealand. The barqueniine Falcon, 285 ions register, built to order for Watt Bros., Napier, was successfully launched to-day, and is intended to trade between Napier and Australia. Nelson, Sept. 30. There have been constant but not very heavy rains with a strong breeze from the north-west since Sunday. The p.s. Charles Edward which sailed on Sunday for the West Coast, lay at Tntarunui Bay in company with a barque and three schooners till yesterday, and put back last night. The weather is now south-east and looks threatening. Dttnedin, Sept. 30. A fine day, but prospects of more rain. Slight damage is done by water on the low-lying portions of the city. Reports of the heaviest rain and heaviest snow for years are received from the mining districts. A number of persons left by the s.s. Tararua for the Palmer diggings this afternoon. A vessel will probably Btart direct in a few weeks, when it is expected a large number will {,<>• At a meeting of the Colonial Bank this afternoon, the Chairman said that the number of shares applied for in each Province was— Otago, 107,731; Napier, 8200; Westland, 5054; Marlborough, 2077; Taranaki, 1078; Nelson, 5618; Auckland, 8123; Wellington, 17,531; Christchurch, 15,367.— T0ta1, 169,779. 30,000 shares were reserved. The result of the ballot for directors is Jnot yet known.
