INANGAHUA MINING NEWS.

[HERALD, SEPT. 5.] Wealth of Nations.— The steady yield of gold from this mine during the past 12 months has without doubt assisted .power- : . fully towards maintaining a favorable im^. pvession in the minds of those more im- - mediately interested in the development^ of our reefs. There is every reason to expect that the yield of gold for the next 12 months from this mine will be as large as that obtained last year, since a con-. r siderable quantity of stone is already laid bare between the first and second levels, and there is sufficient stone still remaining in the surface workings to keep the machine employed until the connection between the middle tunnel and : main shaft is made, when the low level quartz will be sent through the said tunnel instead of through the upper level, as at present. The work in the face of the tunnel is very hard, and Harvey and party are deserving of much credit, having stuck to their work, and were determined to complete their contract when it was apparent they could not possibly make half wages. They have only 12ft; more to drive to complete their contract of 200 ft. ... ..... ,;, .... ... Independent. — The party employed ia this tunnel have driven 20ft, and have 30ft more to drive to complete their contract ; considering the nature of the ground, which is hard, good progress has been made. ' ... './ ; : ; Inangahua Gold-mining arid Quartzcrushing Company. r— The i bush has been cleared, and a road form&d from the river bank to the wheel- pit -ins order to allow the waggons bringing up the machinery to drive up .o the machine house as they, arrive from Greymouth. ''-'' ?; ' Energetic— The parcel of gold .obtained for the first two weeks' crushing under the new regime was as great as was expected ; at the same time, it must not be accepted as an average yield, since more than half the stone was known to be hardly worth crushing.. ..The new tramway and bridge wilt 1 be 'completed next week. "■■■:■ •:■;» Westland. — A general clearing up of the crushing of the stone from the Ingle-, wood took place last Saturday. The number of ounces of gold obtained has not yet transpired. ~ ; Phoenix.— lt was recently reported that 50 or 60 tons of stone, now lying at the mouth of the tunnel, was to be sent to the Westland to be crushed, but none of the stone has yet reached the machinehouse. ' Golden Fleece.—Hopes are entertained that the difficulties in the way of an amicable adjustment of terms for crushing at the Aj ax will be removed/ The:director3 of the latter company have modified the terms, at least so says rumor, on which it was proposed to crush for the Golden Fleece. ... Ajax.— The reef in the face of the south drive, in the third level, is between 4ft . and s^t thick. The work of excavating the chamber is being proceeded with. Invincible. — Naysmith and party have driven 40ft without intercepting the reef. - ITALIAN GULLY. Golden Fleece.— lt is highly satisfactory to state that the reef in this claim. stifi holds remarkably well, and shows excellentgolden stone throughout; in fact some of the specimen pieces are extra rich; It is generally estimated by men of. experience, who have visited the ground, that the stone ought to average when crushed not less that 4oz or soz to the ton, though some have gone so far as to put it at Boz stone. The present contract taken by . Quigley for driving the tunnel 50ft is now nearly completed, and it is. the intention of the company to let another contract immediately. Should the reef continue to hold good in the next 50ft, machinery will be placed on the ground. ' ■ :- ?
