Wellington, July 21. Applications for 2000 shares in the. Colonial Bank were made to-day. The total number applied for in the city alone is 16,000, which, possibly, with those applied for in Wanganui and the other districts, will be considerably over 20,000 allotted in the Province of Wellington. In the Supreme Court, Steele and Keogh v. Hntchinson, Editor of the Wellington Tribune, a demurrer agreed to, defendant pleading in an action for libel. Mr Travers appeared in support of the demurrer, and the Attorney-General opposed. His Honor reserved judgment. It is understood that the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company's fleet will not be sold, unless the vessels bring their fall value, as several capitalists and merchants have agreed than sooner. |than let the steamers be knocked down at less, money will be forthcoming so as to keep the head quarters still at Wellington.
