I Friday, July 10. (Before 0. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.) FELONIOUS ASSAOLT. Francis Bendrett was charged with violently assaulting Constable William Meredith on the 7th July. The prisoner had been brought up at the last sitting of the Court, on which the evidence of Walter Atkin was taken, and the accused was remanded till to-day. We have already given the particulars of this affair, and the evidence taken now confirms the formerly expressed opinion that a very serious offence has been committed. After the examination of the constable, of Carolina Taggs, arid Dr Phillips, prisoner was committed for trial at the next sitting of the District Uourfc, Ahaura. OIVIL CASES, M'Laren y. Elliott, M'Gowan claimant. —An interpleader as to the ownership of a cottage situate at ' Napoleon street, Ahaura. The bailiff seized the property to satisfy a verdict obtained at the last sitting* of the Court by the plaintiff against the defendant Elliott and another. Mra M'Gowan claimed the house as hers by "right, of inheritance," but her title was found to be imperfect," and the bailiff was directed to sell. Mr Staite for the plaintiff. ■■.'-.:. , M.
