She is bound for Wellington with a cargo of coal, and is chartered by the Government to bring back a cargo of iron rails. The s sSt Kilda also proceeded to sea after having been detained in port for a waek, She goes to War ganui for a cargo of cattle. ' The B.s Waipara ran up from Hokitkaon Saturday, bringing a Cornish boiler and a large quantity of pumping gear for the Greymouth Coal Company. She left again, the same evening The schooner Wanganui was towed to sea yesterday by the p.s Dispatch. She takes a full lood of sawn timber f>r Timaru ' As the channel is rapidly improving, and the sea very smooth, it is very probable that the detention of the brigantine Zephyr in the roadstead will be terminated to-day by her being brought to the wharf. The s.s Alhambra is due to-day off Hokitika, from Melbourne direct, and as shenvist have hod fine weather on the run over, her arrival may be looked for at any mou.ent She will take passengers from this port for Nelson, &c, and also for Melbourne Ma the Bluff. FERRY REGULATIONS. The following are the regulations for the ferries in Westland, published in the Gazette :- SCHEDULE. 1. At each ferry good and efficient boats or punts as may be gazetted to be maintained. The boats tO be fitted with proper oars, and the punts to he fitted with proper gear, and to each punt a boat must be attached. 2. A supply of seasoned timber to be kept at all times ready cut for immediate use, in case 'of the boat or punt being wa.hed away. 3 The ferryman's hou«e to be placed as near to the ferry as possible, having due regard to safety from floods. 4. A signal staff fitted with flag or ball to be erected and maintained on the side of the river opposite to that on which the ferryman's house is built, and such staff to be in a position that it can be clearly visible from the said ferryman's house. 5 If the river is at any time fOrd«ble, the feryman must give every assistance, if required to do so, in p anting out the fords to persons crossing, and in such c\*>en the feryman to be entitled to charge according to ithe scale of charges gazetted for his ferry. 6 Proper accommodation for travellers to be provided at each fe^ry -house at an approved sca'e of charges. ■ i: 7 Subject to the approval of the Licensing Bench for the districts, the Superintendent may reco-r.mend a free license to be granted to ferrymen on the southern femes. 8 The ferries »nd apt-roaches thereto on both sdes o' the fiver to be t all tunes properly mai tame 1. subject to the approval of the Superintendent 9.
