Auckland, April 27. : In the Supreme Court a case against Brogden and Sons', for wages Of workmen employed by a sub-contractor, was determined in favor of Brogdens. The Chief Justice held that a contractor is only liable for the debts of a sub- contractor. When all the money due has been paid to the sub-contractor the liability of contractor ceased. Workmen must look to their actual employer for wages. A rule nisi was granted calling on the proprietors of the Evening Star to show cause why a criminal information for libel should not be filed against them for certain remarks on Mr Fraser, the Resident Magistrate ac the Thames.
