[anolo-australian press telegraph AGENCY.] Lyell, April 14. The result of the polling yesterday for the District Board was as follows : — Jas. Ryan, 58; William Burns, 42; John Fennell, 38; Peter S. Dampsey, 37; Robert Cairns.. 34 ; David Leslie, 28 ;J. K. Sloan, 27 ; John Carroll, 24 ; Thomas O'Brien, 19 ; John Beck, resigned. The Chairman will recommend that the Superintendent gazette the first six a Board. P. S. Dempsey and Co. report Lyell stock as follows :— Sellers, Break O'Days, 15s; Great Extended, 8d ; Long Drive, Is 6d ; Oriental, Is , Lyell Creek, Is lOd ; Stella, 6d ; Central, 3s Bd. Buyers, Break O'Day, 14s. A good gold bearing leader has been struck in the Great Extended Company's ground, north of the Eight-mile Creek, supposed to be a continuation of the Break O'Day leader. Wellington-, April 14. The Hutt railway was opened for traffic this morning at eight o'clock, without demonstration ,of any kind. About twenty passengers went in the first train. Dr Honeywell, found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to six months' imprisonment, previous to the passing Of his sentence stated that, had his counsel called four medical witnesses who were subpoenaed, he would have been acquitted. The Judge recommended him to petition the Governor. It is stated here that Sullivan left Auckland last week in a ship direct for England. Invercargill, April 14. Two hundred and thirty-seven nominations were sent by the Suez mail. Since the 20th October last, when free nominar tions commenced, 2558 have been sent from the luvercargili office. Reepton, April 14. News has just arrived in Reefton that a miner named Brennan has been run over by a truck at the Wealth of Nations mine to-day.
