ST. PATRICK'S DAY.

: This annual festival was celebrated yesterday much in the same manner that it has been observed for several years past in Greymouth. Unfortunately, the weather in the morning and early part of the day was not propitious, and many who came to town were disappointed by tmS postponement of the race meeting. Notwithstanding the heavy showers which fell, the members of the Hibernian Australian Catholic Benefit Society ipet at their branch room and marched to the chapel. About one hundred members of the St. Patrick's Society from the South Beach and New River districts assembled in the morning, and, each wearing a green sash, marched into town headed by the Town Band, playing the customary national airs, and also proceeded to the chapel, where mass was celebrated. After service, the two societies formed procession, and headed by the band marched through the streets, and then quietly dispersed. As there was no race meeting, all the places of business remained open during the day, and crowds perambulated the streets, but the greatest good order and good feeling everywhere prevailed. In the evening the. members of the H.A.C.B.S. again assembled at their branch room, and headed by the band marched in procession, each carrying a lighted torch, the effect of which was very striking.
