During the last two days the arrivals have been the schooners Tauranga and Alert, which were towed in by the p.s. Lioness. They are both from Lytteiton, laden with general produce, and their cargoes will be sold by auction on the wharf to-day, by Messrs D. Maclean and Co and Nancarrow and Co , respective-y. Tho ps Charies Edward also arrived on Saturday night from Nelson, Westport, and Hokitika, aud will sail north to-night.
The brig Alice Maud was tow-d to sea yesterday by the Lioness. She is bound for Melbourne with a cargo of coal and sundries. We have been requested by the Manager of the New Zealand Insurance Company to contradict the statement which appears to have found currency in the Southland News, and reprinted in our issue of the 13th inst, representing this Company's loss per Surat at Lls,< 00 inste d of L 7500. which is the amount that company lost by that illfated vessel. All claims payable in this country have already been adjusted and promptly settled.
