On the day she left the Bluff, the 14th, she broke the air pump of the starboard engine ; then worked one engine at low pressure, the other at high pressure, and steamed alone very well, at about seven knots, until 9 p.m. following day, when the engines were brought up all standing, and on examination it was found that the steanv bush was fouled, and it is supposed that the shaft has broken inside the bush, as it will not move. Fiji news to the 10th ha 3 been received at Auckland. - A severe hurricane visited the Island, and numerous cocoanut trees were destroyed, and cotton torn up by the roots. At Savn-Sanvu houses were blown down, with loss of life among the natives. H.M.S. Pearl was caught in a squall off Kandavu, and a heavy sea broke through the ports into the Commodore's cabin, destroying many papers. ' Houses were unroofed, and cutters driven ashore at Levuka. The Bank refuses to cash Government Treasury Bills. The Government is very impecunious.
