A correspondent of the Otago Daily limes says that the Colonial Architect's estimate for the proposed new Government Buildings at Wellington was about L 22,000; but the lowest tender received was from an Auckland firm for L 29.000 in wood. The lowest tender for concrete was about LIO.OOO more. The Government' declined all the tenders'; but, although the reclamation of the Bite is being vigorously proceeded with, the general idea is that no further steps will be takenlat' present towards the erection of the buildings. It is said, however, that enquiries are being made as to the possibility ot obtaining timber at a cheap rate from Tasmania. The local carpenters say that anything so saved in the coat of timber would -be absorbed by the extra cost of working the t Tasmanian ' wood.
