Kelmode, Esq. Smiler was got by Prince, a pure Suffolk horse, imported by Mr Ford, from whom he was purchased, out of a remarkably fine mare, got by Czar, a Clydesdale Lorse, imported from Scotland, by the late Mr Scott. The breed on dams side, were originally from a mare got by Clydesdale Ben, a fine imported Clydesdale to Sydney about twenty years ago, and has been crossed by none but imported Clydesdales, with the exception of Prince. It will be seen that he possess a very large amount of Eclipse blood, as, independently of the several strains of blood through Risk his sire, there have to be added those got through Sir Hercnles, a direct descendant of Whisker. Golden Eagle's great grand-sire Skelet -n, bred by the Ma>quis of Sligo, was one of the best horses that ever ran on the Curragh of Kildare, where he won five races out of six for which he started the year he was brought out, and was then sold for £2000 to be shipped for Australia.
