their trade in Nelson. A saddle shown by Mr Jackson is also an excellent specimen of Nelson workmanship. Drain pipesTperforated bricks intended aa substitutes for iron gratings, and fire bricks manufactured from the clay which is found in immense quantities at Brunnerton, all exhibited by Mr Patching, are to be seen in another corner, arid are well worthy of attention. Under the same roof is the Natural History department, where are to be seen stuffed birds and animals, fossils, petrifactions, shells, specimens of timber with the foliage of the trees from which they were : cut, and an interesting col lection of young forest trees in pots. The most interesting feature of the Exhibition is the Minerals. Coal may he seen in huge blocks or smaller pieces taken from seams at Collingwbod, the Grey, the Owen, Motupipi, Pakawau, Richmond,. JTgakawhau, Wangapeka, Wangainoa, Inangahua, and indeed, all parts of the Province. Sandstone, limestone, hematite ore from Collingwood, together with bars of iron smelted from the latter, and a horseshoe and nails made from it; Bags of the pigment obtained from the hematite were also exhibited by Mr Louission. Mr Hough has sent a. collection of polished marbles from Collingwood, the Bank of New Zealand a case containing specimens of alluvial gold frpin all the known diggings in the Province, some ,of it nuggetty, some scaly, some as fine as flour ; also some lumps of quartz from the Decimal mine thickly studded with the precious metal. Mr Tatton has furnished a most interesting collection of minerals, carefully arranged and classified. There are gold; silver, copper, chrome, lead, zinci antimony, graphites, clays in twenty-two varieties, silicates, silicates of potash, and potashes in various stages. , ( We can but congratulate the Committee and the Nelson public generally upon the encouraging proof that the Exhibition affords'of the rish and numerous mineral resources of the Province, and upon the very creditable show that is made by our local manufacturers. :
