Vacancies for two or three more Boarders. Election Notices. ■CILISuTION OF SUPERINTENDENT! TO THE ELECTORS. Gentlemen— As has been already notified through the Press, I am a candidate for your suffrages in the approaching election of Superintendent. Before the day of election, 1 purpose holding public meetings at all the centres of population- throughout the Province, to address you on the subject of this, the most important election in Westland's brief annals. A temporary lameness prevents my commencing this business at once, or, indeed, moving about at all just now, while, as I understand, the other candidates are actively engaged canvassing for votes, I therefore take the liberty, gentlemen, of asking you uot to commit yourselves, but to suspend your judgment until you have heard all the candidates in public, and have had full op- ] portunicy of weighing their respective claims upon your suffrages. These door-to-door laudations and condemnations should have no weight with sensible men. I wouid further ask you, gentlemen, though perhaps it is unnecessary, to discard the shameless misrepresentations and perversions of truth which are appearing from time to time in a Hokitika paper called the Register, whose special mission just now seems to be to beatify Mr Bonar, and damnify your humble . servant ; or, as it has been less elegantly put, "to blacken White, and whiten Bonar." . The development of Westland's undoubtedly large resources, by means of borrowed money, expended on reproductive works would be the cardinal feature of my policy, if elected your Superintendent. • It is idle to think of making headway otherwise ; ..ur revenue barely pays Governmental expenses. , Un the important subject of education, my views are pretty well known ; but on this point I desire to.be olearly understood. I 1 would countenance no system of education that did not fully recognise and do ample justice to th • claims of existing schools. ,The exigencies ot an advertised address preclude me from entering more fully into these important matters here, but I shall deal with them, and all others connected : with this election, at the meetings above referred to. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, JOHN WHITE. Hokitika, Nov. 20, 1873. Pnblic Notices. VTEW RIVER WATER.RACE. The New River Water-race Company now announce with pleasure that, after two and a half years' labor on the construction of their Race, they have completed it to Brandy Jack's Point, Limestone diggings, and, as it here commands a large extent of payable ground, the Company, in antici- , pation of a very great demand being u.ade for water about this locality, have taken steps to bring in Ten Extra Heads of Watec from Italian's Creek, which, when added to their present supply, will make about Thirtyfive id cads of Water running in their Race, making it the Second Largest Race in the County of Westland, and as the supply, by/ constructing two reservoirs, will be almost unlimited, the Company have determined upon very liberal terms, so that miners, may profitably work even poor ground. i Full particulars of terms can be ascertained, from DAVID MADDEN, •■;■ . ? Working Manager-,. On the ground y Or . JAMES HAMILTON, .. - . Legal Manager,. Greymouth..
