Weliington, Oct. 18. A fire is visible at sea, outside the Heads— supposed to be on board the E. P. Bouverie, innnigraufi ship, now due, The steamers Paterson and Lyttelton have gone out to render assistance. It is said the flames are distinctly seen from the hills. H.M.S. .Pearl has sailed with the Governor and suite for Auckland. The Post doubts whether the new immigration instructions can be carried out. The William Tapscott is still anchored inside the Heads. Some fresh men have shipped, and it is reported that others have deserted. The steamer Manawatu is still ashore. If she is not got off this tide, the Taranaki or Rangatira will go to her assistance. October 19. The outer signalman was deceived when he made the signal that the vessel seen was on fire. She is the E. P. Bouverie, with immigrants, all well. She is still outside. The s.s. Manawatu is off the Strand, and at anchor. NewPxymouth, Oct. 38. For the Superintendency election Messrs Atkinson, Carrington, and Browne are stumping the district. The two first are favorites. A vote of confidence in them i has been passed at all their meetings. NiPiER, Oct. 18. In the Magistrate's Court N.. Jacobs has been fined L 25 for attempting to evade Customs duties. The defendant had actually paid more than duty, but put in two sets of invoices, one containing the valuation too high, the other too low. He paid on the highest. He was convicted because neither was absolutely correct with the importation. *G.RAHAMSTOWN, Oct. 18. The Champion belt was presented to the winner, Lieutenant Hoskins, last night. The Advertiser condemns Vogel's new Telegraph Tariff as most unjust to evening papers. Caledonians declined at Lls ss. The share market generally is dull. The gold returns to-day are below the average. 600oz have been lodged up to the present time. The Superintendency election is occupying great attention. A rumor is current that Lusk will retire in Williamson's favor. i Auckland, Oct. 18. The Star strongly attacks the altered telegraph charges. It says Mr Yogel made them in the interest of the morning papers, and that it is an attempt to check evening journals, compelling them to pay fourfold.
