It is stated that last year's profits derived from several large collieries in the Sheffield district exceed LIOO,OOO each, while the rate for the last quarter is even greatly in excess of that amount. , It is not surprising after that tbe coal heavers should strike for a share of such magnificent profits. Owing to the increased prices of provisions the men were relatively worse oif than when receiving ower than the late rates.
