WESTLAND WASTE LANDS BOARD
[ABRIDGED PBOM WEST COAST TIMES.] The first sitting of the Waste Lands Board for the present month, was held on Tuesday, the 13th inst. Present: The Chief Commissioner, Mr Hoos, Mr Evans, and the Receiver of Land Revenue. A letter was read from the Minister of Public Works, forwarding copy of letter from Messrs J. Brogden and Sons, stating that thoy have suspended further action with reference to the construction of the Mikonoi Water-race, pending instructions from England. Thomas Horton applied to purchase 130 acres of rural land in Block 1, Grey district. Mr Learmonth, on behalf of W. M. Cooper, opposed the application on the ground that Mr Horton had simply entered his name in the application bor k, without stating what the application was for. After a very warm discussion, the Board decided that Mr Horton's application must lapse. W.M. Cooper, by his agent, Mr Learmonth, applied to purchase 100 acres of rural land in Block 1, Grey district. [The land applied for is included in tho section which Mr Horton had applied for.] Mr Spain, as agent for W. C. Roberts, objected to the application of Mr Cooper being granted, on the ground that at the time of his (Mr Cooper's) entering his name in the application fcook, be did not Bpecify what land he would apply for. Tho Board deferred the consideration of the application. W. M. Cooper applied, through, his agent, Mr Learmonth, to have 10 acres of suburban land in Block LXVJI, Grey district, put up to auction. Granted, L 5 deposit paid. William Charles Roberts applied to purchase 100 acres of rural land in Block 1, Grey district. The application was for the same land E" d for earlier in the sitting by W. M. r, and is included in the section of applied for by Thomas Horton. The Board decided to grant the application of Mr Roberts, as at the time of entering his name in the application-book he described the land he applied for, which the other applicants did not. License to occupy issued ; LIOO paid. A refund of L 2 10s 6d was granted to W. J. Coates for deficiency ~of acreage found on survey of pection 1130. The following resolution was passed by the Board :— " That this Board will not hear any applicant for lands whatever. • unless a written application has been made and lodged at the time the applicant entered his name in the application-book; such application to specify, with reasonable accuracy, the boundaries of the land applied for.' The Board rose, after haying renewed a large number of temporary reserves.
