NELSON CREEK.
(To the Editor of the Grey River ArgsuJ Sir— May I take, the, liberty of making known, through the medium of your valuable journal, the inconveniences, loss, and insecurity that miners are subjected to on Nelson Creek and its vicinity. We cannot communicate with our friends unless through the medium of some person who is going on business to the TwelveMile, or to Greymouth, If we want to send money to our friends, peyhajpa to our wives, we have to go down to the TwelveMile or te the Greymouth* and at the same time 1 know many who during their absence were forced to pay one pound per diem to a man to work in the claim during their absence, or else pay it to their mates. This is not all, when we have gold to sell the storekeepers are unable to pay for- it. We have first to give them the gold, and next wait for the money until the storekeepers make a sale of it. Men must either credit them, or spend time themselves to take it to the Twelve-Mile, s.o I hope some of the Banks will authorise some of the storekeepers to buy gold for them, and supply them with money for the purchase of the same. We had a visit from Mr Warden Dutton, of the Twelve-Mile, who told us that the Postmaster-General was informed that the bottom of Nelson Creek was. the fittest place for a Post ' Office; that the postman could get from there to the Twelve-Mile when he could not get from here. I must flatly contradict that statement, as I have gone from this terrace, and many others too, to attend at the Warden's Court, when neither postman nor Warden could nor did come from the Grey. — I am. &c, Thomas H.oran. Try-ag*in Terrace, August 24, 1868.
