Mr Inspector James said the prisoner had been in custody on another charge, but he now brought him up on the* charge of having murdered George' Dobson. He then detailed the circumstances regarding the finding of the body on the previous day, which were merely a repetition of the evidence given by him at the inquest. " He then asked fora remand, as there were other parties implicated in the murder.; ' " The Magistrate granted the application,. and remanded the prisoner to Hokitika, to Ibe brought up before the Resident 'Magistrate there, oh Monday the 15th inst „. The same prisoner was also charged with stealing four Ll-notes, the property of Rachael Bridport, on Friday last It appeared from the evidence that the prisoner had gone into a house kept by the complainant in Richmond Quay and ts'ied for a drink, which he got but did not pay for. Later in the day he called with other two men and asked for three drinks. The complainant would not give them, as the prisoner had not paid for the last, but he said he would pay and he got "them. *He was leaving the house without paying, when he was called back for the money. He then took a L5-note out of his pocket, and, holding it in his hand, asked the complainant to take the drinks out of that and give him the change.
