Cpmiskey, Hokitika., Office : At Cassius and Comiskey's Store', Greymouth, The object of the Company -is the construction of a large water race, capable of supplying water for sluicing purposes at a sufficient altitude to command the whole range of auriferoug terraces and gullies in the Arnold and adjacent districts. , It has been proved beyond question that these terraces^ and gullies are not only i very extensive, but also exceedingly rich, but the want of water has hitherto prevented their development . In all cases where water has been available very profitable results have accrued to the owners of the few small races that have been enabled to obtain a supply. It has been found, hpwever, that the local streams are quite insufficient for the requirements of the district, and that the supply must be obtained from a distant source. t ' The present Company was originated for the purpose of endeavoring to'discover* an ' abundant supply of water from sueh 1 an altitude as would make it available for "the most elevated terraces in the district, in the conviction that should these conditions be fulfilled, immense advantages would accrue to the mining community, and that the under- ' taking would prove exceedtagfotfgng^Up|j The district of Lak^B^^^^^^ed^ itself as thempjjftdilffljf^Tnir™> of supply, and Esq., Surveyor, and *j&r Job Savage, the Company's Manager, made a thorough examination of the Lake and its neighborhood. They succeeded in finding an unfailing supply of water in the Hohonu River, which can be brought in at an elevation sufficient to command the whole of the gold fields lying between Lake Brunner and the Arnold on the one hand, and the Greenstone on the other. In the great and profitable results of the Company's undertaking the promoters have the utmost confidence, and their opinion is supported by that of the miners and'storekeepers in the district, who have most liberally assisted in carrying out the preliminary arrangements of the Company! ft is proposed to construct the race of such a capacity as to supply from 30 to 40 sluice heads of water, the length of the race beiug about 20 miles. The construction of the race will be immediately commenced, and it is^expected to be completed in about four months.. The advantages pffered by this Company may be summed up as follows :— • 1. The unfailing supply of a large quantity of water to ,an extensive area of auriferoug ground, and the consequent increase of mining prosperity. 2. Economical management, and large profits, the former being estimated to cost not exceeding £30 per week, - and the hitter to produce fully 100 per cent per annum on the capital, Valuable Water Right, which being the fait right from an unfailing source no question of protection, &c, can affect it,' The promoters bind themselves not to offer any of their own shares till the remainder are disposed of at not under par^thus preventing any depreciation of the stock by them.
