(Before W. H. Eevell, Es^., R.M.). Drunk and Disorderly.— William Davis and John O'Brien, charged with having been drunk and clisorderly'on Saturday, were each finked Llj or 48 hours'.imprisonment. Walter Matheson pleaded guilty to having been drunk and incapable, and was fiiied 10s, or '48 hours' imprisonment. Thomas Fitzgerald was charged with drunkenness and disorderly conduct on Sunday morning. He admitted the charge, but pleaded that he had been ia custody since Sunday morning, and this was his first offence. He was dismissed with a caution. Wilful Destruction of Property. — Andrew Flynn was charged with having been drunk and disorderly on Sunday night, and with haying destroyed property to the vahie of L 2. J. H. Gilchrist, brewer, Greymouth, stated that between eight and nine o'clock on Sunday night, he heard a noise at the door -of his house, as of some forcing an entrance. Before he^ could get to the door the prisoner, -who was-'intoxicated, managed to get in, -and on being remonstrated with used very bad language, and had to be pushed out at the door. He then behaved ia a very outrageous manner, kicking and beating the door, and smashing the windows. ! He there committed damage to the amount of Ll ; and he then proceeded to an adjoining tent, broke in the end of it, and pushed a stick through the calico, near the head of the occupant, giving him several severe blows. The damage done here was also estimated at Ll. The prisoner said he knew nothing whatever about the matter, having I been drunk at the time. The Magistrate reprimanded the prisoner for his foolish conduct, saying that he looked upon drunkenness more as an aggravation than as an excuse for a crime: He inflicted a fine of Ll on each of the three charges, and made 1 an order upon the prisoner for the payment of the value of the property he had destroyed.
