Bassett, another of tho ill-fated passengers, went from Uanpiora, in which district he has been employed for some time. Ho was single, about thirty years of age, of medium height, grey eyes, dark hair, and had had one hand recently broken at the wrist. His mother resides at Hobart. He was well known to Mr Hi. Atkinson, seedsman, of Bangiota.
The cook, who made so full a statement of the Tararna disaster, as already published, was transferred to the Union Steamship Co.’s s.a. Taiaroa, which arrived this morning at Port. 'I he man speaks in an earnest manner about the scene on board the unfortunate steamer. Do has, however, nothing farther to communicate than has already appeared. Ed.
