POLICE COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, May 3. r Before G, L. Lee, J. D. Macpherson, and J. Ollivier, Esqs., J.P.’b.] Dhunkbnness. —J. Hawker, alias Williams, in a pitiable state from excessive drinking, was sent to Lyttelton gaol for eight days for medical treatment. Annio Jerome, for being drunk while in charge of a horse and trap, and Jessie Weston, for being drunk and fighting with the last prisoner, were each fined 10s. Fanny Alice Parks, for being drunk and disorderly, received a severe caution and was dismissed.
~V agbancp.—lsabella Leckie was brought up charged with having no lawful visible means o *. support. The police described her as a thorough vagabond, a frequenter of public-houses, and the associate of loafers and larrikins. She had last been arrested, drunk, by the police, on the previous night. She had been convicted eleven times in the last sixteen months. She was sent to gaol for three months, to be kept at hard labour. Labceht.—George Thomas Lovett was charged with stealing £8 in money from the person of Dennis Murphy, The police led sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against prisoner, who was then remanded until Friday next. Neglected Child.—Charles Chapman, a boy aged 11 years, who had been committed to the Industrial School at Burnham from Wellington, and whose term had expired, was, on the representation of the police that his parents were not fit to have charge of him, recommitted for a further term of five years.
