ROAD BOARDS.

OUST. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held on Monday, April 11th. Present—Messrs Higgins (chairman), Atkinson and Biddle. The chairman reported that he and Mr Grant had inspected Anderson's road, and considered the work proposed to be done there was unnecessary. It was decided that the work should not be done. In regard to Mr Donaldson’s application, the chairman reported that he had inspected the main drain reserve, and thought that the footpath would be useful to Mr Donaldson, and might be made if it did not cost too much, and recommended that if the Board decided to to have the work done, it should be let in small seclions. Correspondence was road— From the Oxford Hoad Board, stating that Mr Hossack had complained of a culvert on Bennett’s Boundary road being too small, and asking if the Board will agree to a ford being made and paying half the cost. The Chairman and Mr Atkinson to inspect the place and report at next meeting. From Mr J. D. Dickenson, offering to buy some broken pipes from the Board. Declined. From the Baiiway Department, declining to have any more to do with the water question at Bennett’s. Mr B. S. Pawsey applied for permission to take shingle from Feeble'* pit. Granted. Mr Searell applied for some pieces of timber from the old bridge on the Mill road. Refused, Mr Howson applied to have Howson’s road formed full width. It was decided that the work be done. The chairman's motion for opening the meetings of the Board to the public was postponed for a fnll meeting of the Board. Mr H. Thompson applied to have some drains cleaned out. He was informed that the Board will pay half the cost on the usual conditions. Several tenders were received for forming the Cemetery road and the lowest accepted. It was decided that £IOO3 be deposited with the Union Bank of Australia, Bangiora, for a period of six months. Resolved—“ That all persons in the district having unregistered dogs in their possession after the let of May be summoned.” It was decided that a meeting of Ratepayers be held on Monday, May 2nd, for the purpose of electing one member to serve on the Board in the place of the late Mr A. Garland, The following resolution was passed :—“ That the members of this Board desire to express their groat regret at the lamented death of Mr Alexander Garland, and beg to place on record their appreciation of fau valuable services as a member of this Board, and are deeply sensible of the loss the district has sustained by his removal.” Accounts amounting to £246 8s lid wore passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
