SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Boad Board was hold on Wednesday, dthinst. Present —Messrs O. N. Mackie (chairman), D. Q-. Holmes, and W. L. Allan. The clerk’s report was read and received. It recommended the removal of the shed from the old pound and that the yard bo let. A letter was received from the returning officer, with reference to the late election of three members to the Board, maintaining that the election was legal, and Mr Passmore’s protest thereto untenable. It was resolved to offer the Colonial Investment and Agency Company the sum of £lO per acre for land required for the proposed now road from Bushey Park to Ohertsey, the Board to do the fencing. A petition was received from twenty ratepayers near the beach, objecting to the proposed road through Native Reserve 2058, on the ground that it would be an unnecessary expenditure of the ratepayers’ money. Mr Allan gave notice that he would move at the next meeting of the Board—- " That the resolution passed on November 4lh, 1880, referring to the opening of the above road be rescinded.” A letter was received from the agent of the Bank of New Zealand with reference to deposits. In the absence of Mr Lambic, Mr Allan moved the resolution standing in his name—“ That the resolution passed on December 2nd, 1880, authorising the chairman to deposit the sum of £BOOO, be rescinded, and that the sum of £7OOO be deposited.” This was seconded by Mr Holmes, and carried, Mr John Holmes wrote, stating that ho bad handed Mr G-ill the sum of £ls, and taken his receipt in satisfaction of all damages against the Board. A letter was received from Mr E, Outhbert, 0.E., offering his services to the Board, and enclosing satisfactory testimonials. The Ashburton County Council wrote, acknowledging the Board's letter re the state of the well at the new pound. From Mr Helmore, re the valuation of hie property, and stating that ho bad had no notice sent to him. The clerk stated that the party occupying his lond had received notice. From the Wakanui Boad Board, in referenoo to an objection by the chairman to the way the Boundary road is being formed. The clerk stated ho had waited on the chairman of the Wakanui Boad Board, who had promised to have the matter attended to. On the motion of Mr Holmes, seconded by Mr Allan, it was resolved—" That 2s per tank bo charged to the public for water obtained at the wind pnmp.” It was resolved— 11 That Mr Allan bo appointed to meet the manager of the Colonial Investment and Agency Company to arrange about the fencing to be erected on the now road. Accounts to tho amount of £330 10s lOd were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned.
