AH LEE’S DREAM. It will he remembered that a rumor was current immediately after Ah Lee was hung, that ho hod made a confession of his guilt !on the morning of his execution, while in conversation with Wong Ah Tack, the Chinese interpreter. We, “ Morning Herald,” have been at some trouble to find out whether this was really the ease, and now learn that it was not. The circumstance which gave rise to the rumor was as follows :—Wong Ah Tack on visiting the convict, asked him how ho felt, and Ati Lee replied that he had had a bad dream during the night, wherein he saw three devils. Two of them were dressed in white, and the third in red garments. The devil in red said to Ah Lee, “ You are going to ha hung tomorrow morning, and after you are hung you will be buried in the gaol yard. In the world to come try and be a bettor man. May God have mercy upon your soul.” After Ah Lee had done speaking he gave a short laugh, but he made no comment on the dream to Wong Ah Tack. The Chinamen in Donedin attach considerable importance to this narration of the convict, and have ever since been endeavouring to interpret the dream, or to discover Ah Lee’s motive for relating it, but hitherto without su;cess.
