At a good pace Gourmand made the running, followed by Le Nageur, Ignition, Jupiter Tonans, Zucchero, and G-unlock, then came Hopbloom, Bacchus, and Thornfield, with Blue Ruin at the head of the others, ■who weie whipped-in by Venice. After jumping the first flight of hurdles Le Nageur took up the running, followed by Jupiter Tonans, and Shillelagh, these making the bottom turn in front of Ignition, Gunlock, and Misenus, and eo they continued to the hurdles below the stand, where Shillelagh and Le Nageur, side by side, were just clear of Jupiter Tonans and Bacchus, who passed the stand third and fourth respectively, and in advance of Gourmand, Blue Ruin, and Misenus, these in turn being succeeded by Gunlock, Burley, Hopbloom, and Thornfield, Venice being still conspicuous in the rear. At the top turn Shillelagh had drawn out with a slight advantage of La Nageur. and the pair were followed down the hill by Gourmand, Ignition, and Hopbloom, with Bacchus, Thornfield, Gunlock, and Jupiter Tonans. A mile from home Ignition took up the running, followed by Shillelagh, Le Nageur, Bacchus, Hopbloom, and Thornfield, with Gourmand, Gunlock, and Burley next, and Venice still last. As they streamed past the railway pay gate Shillelagh resumed the command, and was followed in a bunch by Ignition, Burley, Le Nageur, Thornfield, and Hopbloom, Bacchus following immediately on their heels and being separated by Glanmoor from the others. At the far turn Bacchus drew into second place, Thornfield going on third, with Burley and Hopbloom next, and Le Nageur well beaten in advance of the remainder. In the line for home Bacchus and Thornfield singled themselves out from Shillelagh and Hopbloom, and Lady Alicia also improved her condition. Shillelagh was beaten at the last flight of hurdles, over which Thornfield in the centre'landed with a alight advantage of Bacchus and Hopbloom with Lady Alicia at the heels of the others. Of the three leaders Bacchus was the first to hang out Bignals of diatreas, and Hopbloom gradually wearing down Thornfield. got the better of the struggle jhalf way up the hill and won a very fine race by a length. Three lengths separated the second and third, Bacchus being eased in the last hundred yards, and bo permitting Lady Alicia to obtain a place Ignition was fifth, Shillelagh sixth, Venice seventh a long way in front of Gunlock, Le Nageur, and Zucchero, and the last three were Jupiter Tonanß, Misenus, and Gourmand. Value of the stakes, £1391.
