The fcrigautiue Mary King, Captain Bailey arrived yesterday from Pioton, timber laden. She left there on Snuday morning, and had easterly winds down the coast. The sclnouor Croydon Lass, Captain Cnrran, from Waitapn. arrived yesterday. She left there on Now Year's Eve, aud had moderate weather flown, chiefly southerly. She was berthed at No. 4 With reference to the accident to the steamer Jane Douglas, trading to thii port Captain Fraser Btates that at two o'clock on Saturday morning, January 3rd when off Flaxbourne, the connecting rod of the high-pressure engine broke, bnrsting the cylinder cover off and smashing it in piece 3, also the cylinder flange and gl md. No other damage was done, and the accident is supposed to have ieen caused by a flaw in the machinery. The canvas was set immediately after the breakage, and tho bish-pressnro engine having been disconnected, the steamer put back to Wellington, working tho low-pressuro engine. , The barque Examiner, Captain Scoullar, arrived yesterday from Greymonth. She left there on New Toar's Day. and bad a S.W. wind to the Straits, made on the night of the 2nd ; stroug S E. wind on Saturday in the Strait*, northerly to Kaaioura, strong southerly on Sunday night, and N E. to arrival. Since last here the Examiner hns been trading to Nanier, the Bluff, and to Dnnedin. She •was berthed at Peacock's Wharf, taking the Clematis's place. POET OF SUMNEE, Arrived —January 6.
