LEESTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The usual monthly meeting of the above committee was held on Monday in the schoolroom. Present —Mr Barnett (chairman), Messrs Barker, Penrce, i*'andry, and Scott. Correspondence was road from the Board or Education, advising payment of £34 6s 7d for December salary and incidental expenses. From Mr I\>rd, stating that the school re-openc-d that morning with an attendance of over 100 children ; also calling the committee's attention to a report that had been circulated by Mr C. Wilson to the effect that he (Mr Ford) had asked Messrs Montgomery and Co. to discharge him (Mr Wilson), because he had taken his children from school, which report was without foundation. Several members of the committee expressed their satisfaction at Mr Ford's explanation, and the matter was allowed to drop. The chairman was instructed to close the school when the harvest commenced. A letter was read from Mr John McLachlan, stating that he had been informed that one of the boys attending the main school regularly had competed at the examination at the side school and obtained a prize. After the attendance roll had been examined the committee resolved to oonfirm the prize. A letter from Mrs Smith was laid on the table. The committee then adjourned till the evening of tho annual election.
