HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

At the usual monthly meeting of the Horticultural Sooiety, held last night in the Congregational sohoolroom, Manchester street, prizes were given for the best show of carnations and picotees. The exhibition was divided into two classes, open and amateur, two additional prizes being givon by Mr J. Greenaway for six carnations and picotees. In tho open class for carnations and picoteei Mr J. Greenaway was the only exhibitor. The number of blooms staged was greater than on any previous occasion, several novelties being shown. Many of the blooms, especially Mr Graenaway's seedlings, were beautifully grown, and elicited muoh admiration. A remarkably fine hydrangea, Otaska, was lent by Mr George Gould, and amongst the contributions|for exhibition only were some very choice pansies shown by Mr Mackett, a well made up bouquet by Messrs Nairn and Sons, and a variegated musk by Mr Dutton.
